American evening

When our friends came over last Friday we decided to go for an American meal. The result was small burgers with cheddar, club sandwich, sticky ribs, coleslaw and a nice salad on the side. We all ate more than our stomachs deserved so we ended up pretty full! Even though it might have been too much food, we had an amazing evening together which ended at our balcony, breathing in the last wave of summer heat.

Since there are too many recipes to share with you from this evening, I think that I will just post the main player this time – the burgers!

I always make things from scratch when there is time (and probably not so much time left) so I will guide you through the steps for this entirely home made little fellow! So, let’s start with the buns.

16 small buns
25 g yeast (jäst)
50 g butter
2 dl milk
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
5 dl flour (vetemjöl)
egg for brushing (ägg till pensling)
1/2 dl sesame seeds for garnishing (1/2 dl sesamfrön till garnering)

Tear up the yeast into small pieces in a bowl. Melt the butter and add the milk, heat to 37 degrees Celcius. Pour the milk/butter blend over the yeast and stir until it’s dissolved. Add sugar, salt and flour and work the dough for about ten minutes. Let the dough ferment for about 30 minutes.

Divied the dough into 16 pieces and roll to buns. Let the buns ferment for about 20 minutes and then brush them with egg and sprinkel over the sesame seeds. Bake in 225 degrees Celcius for about 10 minutes.

Smula sönder jästen i en bunke. Smält smöret och tillsätt mjölken, värm till 37 grader. Häll över blandningen över jästen och rör tills den löst sig. Tillsätt socker, salt och mjöl och arbeta degen i ca 10 minuter. Låt jäsa övertäckt i 30 minuter.
Ta upp degen och dela den i 16 bitar. Rulla till små bollar och lägg på en plåt. Låt jäsa i 20 minuter. Pensla bullarna med ägg och strö över sesamfrön. Grädda mitt i ugnen i 225 grader i ca 10 minuter.

Now, lets get on to the dressing!

For my dressing I used crème fraiche, mayonnaise, pickeld cucumber and chilisauce. These are the approximate amount that I used.
1 dl crème fraiche
2-3 tbsp mayonnaise
3 tbsp chilisauce
5 slices of pickled cucumber, cut into small pieces (inlag gurka)

Gently stir the four ingredients together in a bowl.

Rör samman ingredienserna försiktigt i en skål.

And now, the king of the dish, the steaks! The funny thing is that this might be the easiest part of it all…

8 small burgers
300 g minced meat from beef (nötfärs)
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 tbsp chilisauce
1 egg yolk (äggula)
1 tbsp butter

Mix all ingredients to the burger together and make 8 burgers out of it. Fry them in butter in a pan for about 3 minutes on each side.

Blanda samman alla ingredienserna till hamburgarna och forma 8 hamburgare. Stek dem i lite smör ca 3 minuter på varje sida.

Now it’s time to make the burgers! Cut the buns on half, place some vegetables on it, add the burger, cheese and dressing and put the lid on. ENJOY!
